1. Purpose
This policy aims to uphold academic integrity and ensure originality in all scholarly and professional submissions within the LebMed.J platform and affiliated programs.
2. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the presentation of another’s work, ideas, or expressions—whether published or unpublished—as one’s own, without appropriate acknowledgment.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying text verbatim without citation
- Paraphrasing without proper attribution
- Submitting work purchased or obtained from external sources
- Reusing one’s own previous work without disclosure (self-plagiarism)
3. Similarity Threshold
LebMed.J enforces a strict similarity limit of 30% maximum for all submitted documents. Similarity is assessed using Turnitin, the official plagiarism detection software adopted by the journal.
- Acceptable Range: ≤ 30% similarity
- Unacceptable Range: > 30% similarity, subject to revision or disciplinary action
4. Exemptions
The following may be excluded from similarity calculations:
- Bibliographic references
- Institutional templates and standard headings
- Commonly used technical phrases or definitions
- Appendices containing raw data or forms
5. Consequences of Violation
Submissions exceeding the 30% threshold will be:
- Returned for revision with feedback
- Subject to academic review and potential penalties, including rejection, grade reduction, or disciplinary referral
- In repeated or severe cases, may result in suspension from LebMed.J activities
6. Appeals and Review
Authors may request a formal review if they believe the similarity report is inaccurate or unfair. Appeals must be submitted within five working days of notification.
7. Commitment to Integrity
All contributors to LebMed.J are expected to:
- Use proper citation practices
- Employ originality in writing and research
- Utilize plagiarism detection tools prior to submission
- Seek guidance when unsure about citation or reuse
